Unfortunately a defect occurred during replication of the PC version of Terminator Salvation, which does not allow end users to install the game. The downloadable online PC versions, Xbox 360, PS3, are not affected and function properly. We have recalled all PC copies of Terminator Salvation from retail in North America and are currently in the process of replicating new copies. The new copies will be on store shelves in a few days. A replacement plan for all end users that purchased the defective units is currently being set up. Details to get a replacement copy will be announced shortly. We apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused the end users that purchased the defective copy.

What about serial numbers? I heard rumors that the game requires a serial. The manual I have for my storebought does not have a serial number on it. Is one required to install the game?

If a serial is required, will the new copies of the game have a serial present?

Well, they must have been working on the sequel to Terminator. That was why it took so long to post an acknowledgment! Now onto the FIX ladies and gents!

Here's a suggestion: I don't want to wait weeks for my media to be mailed to you and for you to mail me back an actual working product. Instead let me scan my receipt and product box and email that to you and you email back a Steam product key I can use right now. That would get us back up and running fast and avoid us having to wait weeks for snail mail. Seriously, make a deal with Steam!

i agree with headkase 100%. The store I got it from won't accept a re trade, or refund for a opened game, and i do have steam. I would rather just do it that way instead of waiting 10000 years to get a working copy back in the mail.

the inabillity to install from the DVD has ABSOLUTELY NOTHING to do with product keys. It has to do with a mass produced error in the software on the DVD.

The only deal that could POSSIBLY be made with Steam, Is to have them allow you to DOWNLOAD the ENTIRE game, From scratch!!!

As for the Steam release, Itself, They've appended their release, Stating that its only "Available 4th June"

blackturbo: I wholeheartedly agree with what you've said. It is completely unacceptable that the company could allow such a careless error in their software to be released to the public.

Having said that, However, SOMEBODY HAS to be held accountable for the situation - I suspect that the company already knows full well that they're in boiling hot water over this and are working to get it resolved as soon as is humanly possible.

I'm going to remain cautiously optimistic and hope that within the next 12 hours, Another official statement is made, Regarding the fix for the problem, As it seems INCREDIBLY ineffective and inefficient, To mass recall every single copy and then re-release an entire new batch, As well as information as to EXACTLY HOW such a situation could have arisen in the first place!!

An apt analogy would be the now-not-so-recent Microsoft Xbox Live subscription scandal, Where customers were being double, Or even triple charged, On a monthly basis, Due to sloppy performance and a careless mistake, By ONE employee.

As a collector who has retail boxes of terminator 2029, terminator rampage, terminator future shock, skynet and t3: war of the machines, I would rather have a working boxed version of terminator: salvation on my shelf.

A choice between steam version or having them ship the dvdrom would be better.

EDIT: even better for the impatient - just ship out the fixed copies to ebgames/bestbuy/whatever, with some note or something saying to accept returns on recalled copies, and then the rest of us can just drive over there and swap em. store policies usually allow exchanges for the same item anyway..

actually, ive changed my mind about the game now since I think about it, and have myself over-reacted just a bit. Humans do make mistakes every now and then. Iam looking forward to whatever they provide, and ive waited 2 months for this game, so I can wait awhile longer to play it. Iam sure they are working hard on a solution for us so I guess we just have to be patient. I talked to my software vendor, best buy about a refund and they said it was too early to decide and they have to wait till they hear from the game manufacture. I was gonna go get my refund and buy the steam version so I can be atleast playing this game during the holiday weekend. but I have other games I can play in the meantime. Iam sure they have a mess on their hands with thousands of copies corrupted. And Iam sure they are working on a good plan to make us happy, since their reputation is on the line and they are recieving negative stories on all the major gaming sites. THANK YOU EVOLVED GAMES FOR THE OFFICIAL POST,LOOKING FORWARD TO HEARING MORE GOOD NEWS IN THE FUTURE!!! hopefully soon!

Okay here is the fix. It takes a bit to do but I just tested and it works for me. Hope this will help the few who can understand it.

How to manually extract game files: (I already had extracted the entire disk to a folder first, not sure if you will need to.)

    1. Download InstallShield Cabinet File Viewer.
    2. Create a folder to put everything in (ex. C:\Program Files\TerminatorSalvation\). Also add the following subdirectories inside of that:
    \TerminatorSalvation\data\
    \TerminatorSalvation\data\videos\
    \TerminatorSalvation\data\cutscenes\
    \TerminatorSalvation\data\movies\
    \TerminatorSalvation\bundles\
    3. In your Terminator Salvation installation disk, there should be a file named data1.hdr. Open this file with InstallShield Cabinet File Viewer.
    4. Go to View—> Components
    5. Extract the file located inside GrinExes to the main folder you created. (\TerminatorSalvation\)
    6. GrinExesVistaOnly to main folder (if on vista, did not show any in there for me on XP)
    7. USR_bundles to \TerminatorSalvation\bundles\
    8. USR_video to \TerminatorSalvation\videos\
    9. USR_root to \TerminatorSalvation\
    10. USR_context_(your language) (ex. the file related to your preferred language) to \TerminatorSalvation\
    11. Basically, inside the data folder create three subfolders named videos, cutscenes and movies. Move all extracted .bik video files to the videos folder. Also, move all .fcl, .bundle and .lhd files to the bundles folder (rename Bundles folder to bundles if it starts with an uppercase - or the game will crash).
    12. In the end the structure of your folder (created in step 2) should look something like below:

    Image Hosted by ImageShack.us

    13. Run TerminatorSalvation.exe to run the game. (Make sure you rename the Bundles, Videos and Data folders so that they start with lowercase letters. Also you might try rebooting the machine and launching the game if you made any changes to the files/structure.)

Taken (and edited a bit for here) from filenetworks.blogspot.com. "- Thanks to JBeckman, streetunder and Newty182 on NFOHUMP for all the help"

But I wished they had sent me free software :)

anyway,, whoever posted this fix,, is this for XP or Vista? some file folders are different between the operating systems. If somewon tries this ( I will in a few hours) on a Vista machine and it works let us know...Anything to get this game working Ill try.. Iam just not on my gaming machine till later..

I tested on XP SP3 but it should work with Vista. The location to where you put the folder does not matter. I was just using an example. You could just make a folder on C:\TermSalv\ and do it from there if you wanted.

I would recommend to evolved to put this back in the pot and cook it til it's done, game is way to short and if you extended it and put in a decent on-line coop it would go a long way to getting customers back

  7.
Hey blackturbo - no worries, stuff happens and then we move on. Glad to hear the other thing worked out too. Life is way too short for shitty gaming.

I tried to download the installshield viewer but got an .ocx error message attached to some other file. I was hoping it was going to be a little easier, but its not working out too well so far. I'm running Vista 64-bit.

Hoping that patch would come today, although it sounds like we aren't missing much.
  8.
The error message is - Component 'MSCOMCTL.OCX' or one of its dependencies not correctly registered. A file is missing or invalid.

Ahhhh, games are way too much fun. LOL

are you sure you extracted all the files from the HDR? (you have to extract each file under the files listing in the cab viewer, yea its a pain but what can you do?) assuming you've extracted everything correctly there shouldn't be any problems (when I did it I didn't even reboot)

Yes dathmor, I extracted all files just as Sydam3 instructed. It takes a long time to do each one but I was bored so I went for it. I recommend that we give Evolved Games a few days (it's most likely going to take a week) to get the corrected game out in the stores and all we need to do is to return our CD coasters for the new and hopefully bug free game.

I took mine back to Best Buy and they gave me a load of shite about how they cannot reimburse me for the game being that it was software. So I called my attorney in front of the store manager gave the phone to him
and his attitude changed so fast . I never seen a grown man pucker up like that before . When all said and down I got a gift card for the same amount of the game. It was worth it just to see his expression.LOL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

FYI:Best Buy I went in Morristown NJ didn't know anything about this recall they still had the games on the shelves. So if you buy at best buy inform yourself by asking some questions. GOOD LUCK GUYS!!!!!!!!!!

Yeah, so I also went thru tha process. Game ran, sponsor and developer scenes cool and intro movie cool, but no background at menu, options are there but I have no background. Come to think of it, had the same problem with a bad crack of The Witcher. Anyway, I start new game, audio is cool and turorial prompts and subtitles show up but other than that, my screen is totally black. I've a Nvidia geforce 7600 GT and it handles everything to date on my system. Had some performance issues with Riddick Dark Athena and Prince of Persia, but recently swapped CPU for a faster one and things are smoooooth at max settings! Is my vid card just not gonna hack it with Terminator or is the workaround possibly not 100%? Additionally, with the workaround, you extract the level bundles and videos, where are the cutscenes and movies? Maybe a dumb question for those who are more knowledgable of the cyberverse than myself, but would appreciate your patronage none the less.

been a few hours since i last got on here, have they announced when a fixed replacement would ship? I did catch the fact the best buy was giving peoples money back on the game. I think I will wait 1-2 more days for more news before i take my copy back and get refunded,. I sure would like to play the game, but I dont think iam gonna wait long for a replacement, if I wait longer best buy might not honor the return anymore and so Iam stuck. I think I will go tommorrow and get the refund before its too late, I can always pick up the replacement when it comes out in stores whenever they ship it. I think we should all focus our attention and start bugging 3drealms to finally release duke nukem forever , thats the game Iam patiently been waiting for years. ha ha

Ausimus, I'd generally agree with ya. I'm going to reserve some hope with the ligit install disc, preferably with proper video setup, there's squat for any on the current version, just resolution and brightness for funks sake. Just as bumbed as the rest of you guys though. I've enjoyed Terminator since the beggining and do dig a good post apocolyptic scenario. I don't blame the devs or the techs however. They got screwed just as much as the customers did, in a different way, but just as much. Ya see, I was pc support for a manufacturer for a few years and I know exactly how execs and sales can sell a product before it's even finished. Trust me, I've seen some ROYALLY pooched installs! I also happened to be the sorry shlub on the recieving end of pissed off customers, and they were right to be pissed. Anyway, in my experience, the responsible parties know they screwed up. Whether or not they care, who knows. I've been through some nasty production and shipping nightmares and they aren't easily or very quickly resolved, at least not all at once. I don't mean do make it out in a bad light, in fact I hope that the situation involving this game isn't that bad and that we all should be able to exchange our already purchased and defective game copies with newer and fixed copies once they arrive at local stores. Even though the stores have a usual no return policy, I've seen them absolutely make exceptions without complaint with big titles and or products. That said however, if they do not, then we can demand our exchange through the developers. I've been through this in my experience and even though it may be slow, all involved are generally appeased that something is being done to right a wrong. And if that doesn't work, well...then I might just send my copy of the game back to whomever with a steaming turd on it. Generally however, I can appreciate where the customers, the devs and the techs are coming from, but not the execs and the sales duches. Some are soulless and don't care once they have your dollar, others are just stupid and push a potentially decent product out the door before it can walk.

Ok, sorry for that little diatribe there but I felt like venting my 3 cents.

    Asta La Vi....nah forget it
  9.
i find it atrocious that not one quality control personnel would open the game and try it out before the massive shipping. just hire one person. now look how costly
everyone is enduring now. evolved, you may not recover from this. i wish you lots of luck.

may want to start filing for bankruptcy.

ADDENDUM; JUST GOT THE CORRECTED DISC FROM EVOLVED. IT'S ACTUALLY A GOOD GAME. VERY NICE GRAPHICS. A MUST HAVE COLLECTOR ITEM FOR FANS OF THE TERMINATOR.

Bankruptcy is written all over this.

Very irresponsible for evolved games to do such a thing. Whatever happens from now on, is clearly what you guys deserve.

p.s. even without this problem, the game is still too short (2:20hours) to be worth the money.
