On the Couch – 14 Questions with Mojdeh Mansoori, LMFT

Where did you grow up?

I grew up in a small town on the Central Coast.

What is your favorite quote?

I grew up with Persian poetry, especially from the poet Hafiz. I find this quote of his particularly beautiful:

“I wish I could show you when you are lonely or in darkness the astonishing light of your own being.”

What is your favorite part about your work?

I love connecting with my clients and having the opportunity to heal others. I feel honored to be a part of my clients’ lives.

What is your favorite thing about San Francisco?

I think it is one of the most beautiful cities. I love that it has a certain European charm. It is such a special and unique place.

In your free time, what are you most likely doing?

I am most likely shopping for vintage clothes, supporting the local art and music scene, and spending time with friends.

Where was your last vacation?

I spent time in a yurt near the Yuba River. It was pretty magical. Swimming in the waters of the Yuba was very peaceful.

What causes are you most passionate about?

I am most passionate about issues of social justice and feminism.

What was your career before becoming a mental health practitioner?

I was a teacher for many years.

What is your favorite sports team?

I am always ready to represent any of the Bay Area teams. I especially love the Giants.

Tell us about someone who inspires you … past or present?

My grandmother inspired me. She was fiercely independent at a time and in a country where that was not always easy to do.

Name one guilty pleasure, past or present.

I have been known to catch up on celebrity gossip from time to time.

What was one of your first few jobs.

I was a sushi waitress in college.

What’s one fun thing you wish you could do more of?

I would love to take more road trips.

What made you want to become a mental health practitioner?

I wanted to empower my clients and be a part of their healing journey.
