Welcome to Well Acquainted … a weekly series dedicated to the amazing clinicians at Well Clinic
This week, we’re featuring a Q&A session with Addie Liechty, a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) at Well Clinic.
Where did you grow up?
I grew up in the Midwest, also known as “The Heartland.”
What is your favorite quote?
It is a poem by Raymond Carver called “Late Fragment.”
And did you get from this life?
Even so?
I did.
And what did you want?
To call myself beloved, to feel myself beloved on the earth
What is your favorite part of your work?
I love watching people deepen into their relationship with themselves and others. I particularly love when people begin to become more self-compassionate, which I think is the key ingredient to growth, healthy relationships and integration.
What is your favorite thing about San Francisco?
Being from the flat, landlocked Midwest, I love the mountains and the water.
What is your favorite place you’ve ever been?
The Great Rift Valley in Kenya.
Where was your last vacation?
I did a road trip of the Southwest!
What was your career before becoming a mental health practitioner?
I got into this career when I was quite young, but some previous jobs included teaching leadership skills to youth around the United States, being a camp counselor, organizing a peace conference and working in a short stint as a waiter during my teenage years. I was quite bad at it.
What is your favorite book?
“East of Eden” by John Steinbeck.
When are you at your most creative?
I write music and find that I am most creative when I am feeling inspired, emotionally engaged and silly. A lot of creative things can come out when you allow yourself to let loose a bit.
